2 Peter 3:3 says, “For by His divine power, He has given us everything we need for life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness” (emphasis mine).
As we began planning Night of Worship, we wanted our emphasis to align with the Building Blocks of Faith sermon series. As I meditated on 2 Peter 1 the phrase, “everything we need” stood out to me. Have you ever read something and words seem to leap off the page? Or you pass a sign and a word or phrase seems to be shouting at you? “EVERYTHING WE NEED” is the shout I was hearing. It is hard to escape those words so I want to highlight each one.
EVERYTHING we need in our lives, our marriages, our parenting, our jobs, our friendships is ours. Notice the past tense of “He has given us.” God has already given us everything we need by His divine power. It is up to us to appropriate that power by being in God’s Word, knowing His promises, and allowing the Spirit to empower us to live according to them. Just remember that everything means, well, everything.
Everything WE need reminds me that as fellow believers we are in this life together. Women’s Night of Worship is designed to cultivate the WE of Cottonwood!. As women, we have an opportunity to gather before Night of Worship to eat together, fellowship, and strengthen our relationships with one another. Then once at Night of Worship, WE are reminded of those “great and precious promises” that God has given us through worship, prayer, and teaching.
Everything we NEED reminds me that God knows all of our needs and in Philippians 4:19 we are promised that “God shall supply all our needs according to His riches in Christ Jesus.” Here is a question we can ponder in preparation for our Night of Worship. Are my NEEDs defined by God or by the world?
2 Peter 1:3 contains a powerful promise that God has already given us EVERYTHING WE NEED for life and godliness. May today we seek to know Him more deeply, live to glorify Him more intentionally, and demonstrate His goodness more boldly!
